Race Report for Qualifying Two

Seale sets the pace in drizzly qualifying

A new, grey day dawns at Snetterton and there have been some changes in the GT Cup paddock. Lucky Khera joins the grid in the #29 Simon Green Motorsport BMW and Seamus Jennings was able to join the track action thanks to repairs to his Porsche. Del Shelton switched from his BMW E46 to the older E36, due to differential issues with the E46. Shelton also changed groups to GTA with the car swap.

Light drizzle greeted the drivers as they hit the track for qualifying. Graham de Zille was the man to beat early on, setting a benchmark of 2:15.769. It looked as though nobody would beat the Ferrari man, but times started to tumble in the last six minutes of the session.

John Seale in the now repaired JMH Automotive Lamborghini started the charge, with a 2:12, quickly followed by a 2:11 and the pole time of 2:10.671. Richard Chamberlain pitted quickly without even completing a lap. But after a slow start, the orange Porsche jumped up the order into second. A 2:12.321 sealed Chamberlain’s second place grid slot. Seamus Jennings finds himself third on the grid, with Grahame Tilley, the last GTO runner, in sixth.

Following on from yesterday’s pit-stop race success, Laki Christoforou continues his good run with a pole position in GTC. It’s a GTC one-two for FF Corse as Graham de Zille finished second quickest. James Webb ended the session third fastest in the group.

Sam Randon and Team Hard set the fastest time in GTH. A 2:18.593 was more than enough to put the Ginetta ahead of John Whitehouse in the #44 McLaren. Third in GTH was Brent Millage in the Spy Motorsport Porsche, with Chris Murphy and Mal Sandford behind in fourth and fifth in group.

Sander Mortensen continues to shine in the #3 Marcos Mantis with Top Cats Racing. A 2:23.798 gave them pole, ahead of new entrant Lucky Khera. Third fastest was David Frankland in the #911 Porsche, with Frank Mortensen and Fraser Smart fourth and fifth quickest in GTB.

In GTA, it’s no longer a one-horse show, as the #79 Team Hard Ginetta now faces competition from Del Shelton’s BMW E36. It was still the Ginetta out in front though, thanks to a 2:18.744 from Steve Chandler.
