Brands Hatch GP Preview

This weekend hosts the second weekend of the 2022 GT Cup season at Brands Hatch alongside the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AMS. With tickets almost sold out, this event will be hosting a bumper crowd and the GT Cup’s largest audience to date. We’ll have four action-packed races on the iconic GP Circuit with over 35 cars across five groups. Fans are guaranteed a plethora of fantastic machinery as well as some incredible on-track action.

In Group GTO Raw Motorsport’s Radical RXC is leading the points tables following a brilliant performance from Steve Burgess and Ben Dimmack at Donington Park earlier this month. Challenging them for the points will be Richard Chamberlain’s unique Porsche 935, and the Brabham BT62 in the hands of Paul Bailey and Ross Wylie.

Group GT3 does exactly what it says on the tin and hosts cars homologated to manufacturer’s GT3 specification. Currently leading the standings is last year’s GTA champion Simon Orange who has joined forces with pro driver Michael O’Brien and traded the Ginetta for a McLaren 720S GT3. Less than ten points behind sits RAM Racing’s Ian Loggie who’ll be hungry for more good results too. Another eight cars make up the group featuring more McLarens, four Mercedes AMG GT3s and a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 so the points leaders have plenty of competition.

Lucky Khera and new pro partner David Macdonald had a cracking weekend last time out at Donington Park and currently find themselves at the top of the Group GTC standings. A pair of Lamborghinis from Team Webb and Topcats with HEX.com sit second and third in the points and will be looking to close the gap.

Returning this weekend is Group GTB which provides a home for earlier challenge and modified saloon-based GTs. Three cars make up the group and they are all BMWs. Saxon Motorsport return with their 150 GTR and fellow returners Geoff Steel Racing are bringing their BMW Evolution for Sam Allpass. An E46 from Simpson Motorsport rounds out the grid.

Group GTH remains the largest and most competitive with 15 entries lining up on the grid and cars from Mercedes, McLaren, Porsche and Ginetta. Last time out, James Wallis and Sam Maher-Loughnan of Valluga Racing put on a stellar performance and flew to the top of the points table. Though Makehappenracing and Track Focused are both within 20 points so expect to see them trying to claw their way up.

As well as our group titles, the first points are now on the board for the Sprint and Sporting Challenges. Remember, the Sprint Challenge only takes points from Sprint Races and so can be entered by any of our sporting or pro-sporting drivers. The Sporting Challenge, however, is only open to purely sporting driver line-ups. Groups don’t count here, it’s every car for themselves.

Leading the Sporting Challenge are the Webb Brothers in the #13 Lamborghini, though with only ten points separating them and Ian Loggie in second place, they’ll need to work to maintain their top spot. A GTC driver leads the Sprint Challenge too, and this time it’s Lucky Khera. There is a familiar face in second though – Ian Loggie is again snapping at the heels of the top spot.

All four races from Brands Hatch will be broadcast live
