Bumper GT Cup Grid for Silverstone Summer Spectacular
The 2022 season is rapidly progressing and this weekend hosts rounds 15, 16, 17 and 18 on the Silverstone Circuit. Over 35 cars across six groups will join the grid and fans are guaranteed some incredible on-track action.
Kicking off with Group GTO, Raw Motorsport’s Radical RXC leads the points tables following a brilliant start to the season for Steve Burgess and Ben Dimmack. Challenging them for points will be Richard Chamberlain’s unique Porsche 935 – the bright orange machine will be easy to spot on the grid.
Group GT3 has become McLaren vs Mercedes with an almost even split down the entry list. McLaren is the car of choice for our points leaders Simon Orange and Michael O’Brien. The team’s grasp on the GT3 title will only strengthen this weekend as their nearest rivals Morgan Tilbrook and Marcus Clutton take on a different arrangement. Clutton will be taking the team’s Mercedes AMG GT3 out for a spin with invitational driver Hugo Cook. Greystone GT, Paddock Motosport and invitational entry 7TSIX make up the rest of the McLaren runners, while RAM Racing and Tecserve represent Mercedes.
Seven cars make up the Group GTC grid this weekend as Topcats Racing with HEX.com continue to mount a challenge against group leaders Lucky Khera and David McDonald. The often Italian theme of the group is getting a bit of a shake-up this weekend as Ginetta and Porsche rejoin the manufacturer mix. Alex Stevenson and James Kellett will be piloting their Century Motorsport Ginetta G56 Supercup, while invitational entry Adrian Watt will be behind the wheel of 24-7 Motorsport’s Porsche 991.
Group GTH remains the largest and most competitive with 15 entries lining up on the grid and featuring cars from Mercedes, McLaren, Audi and Porsche. Valluga Racing’s James Wallis and Sam Maher-Loughnan currently lead the title fight ahead of Makehappenracing’s Stephen Walton and Chris Hart. Third and fourth in the title are only two points apart, so keep an eye on the #26 Paddock Motorsport and the #77 Greystone GT McLarens as they have their own points battle to contend. Valluga Racing are also bringing a new invitational entry into the mix with Rhea Loucas partnering with pro driver Charlie Hollings for the weekend.
Several further invitational entries this weekend bring Groups GTB and GTA back onto the grid. GT Cup regulars Saxon Motorsport and Whitebridge Motorsport will both be running BMWs in Group GTB, with a Ferrari Challenge 458 and a non-GT4 homologated McLaren 570S completing the group. JMH Automotive will be running the sole entrant in Group GTA – a Ginetta G55 with Paul Maxfield and Conor Flynn behind the wheel.
It's promising to be a cracking weekend at Silverstone with a fantastic grid and some excellent racing. Be sure to catch the race action live as we broadcast the four rounds on our Facebook and YouTube channels.
