Country Roads – Norfolk Countryside Hosts First of Two GT Cup Weekends
With barely a moment to breathe, the GT Cup embarks on its third event of the season. Just two weeks after Brands Hatch, the championship is headed to Norfolk’s Snetterton Circuit for another four action-packed races.
Forsetti Motorsport is continuing their run of good form in Group GTH. Three group wins from four have allowed Matthew Higgins and Mikey Porter to maintain their lead in both the Group and Overall points standings.
Elsewhere in Group GTH, Team Parker Racing jumped to second in the Group GTH title, thanks to some solid performances from Charles Dawson and Pro teammate Seb Morris. The pair denied their Forsetti rivals a clean sweep of victories, claiming the top spot in Saturday’s Pit Stop Race. A less ideal weekend for the sister Forsetti Aston Martin saw that drop to third in the points fight.
Two more new faces join the Group GTH grid this weekend, bolstering the ranks of two existing manufacturers. Aston Martin sees a third Vantage GT4 join the grid in the hands of Peter Montague and Stuart Hall.
Another good performance from Topcats Racing sees the team move into second in the Overall title fight. The #2 Lamborghini of Charlotte Gilbert and Tom Rawlings only missed out on one win throughout the weekend, while Warren Gilbert in the #3 topped up the teams’ points haul in his pair of Sprint races.
Team Parker’s Keith Bush and Woodrow Motorsports’ Chris Murphy round out the Group GTC grid. Bush managed to nab a podium finish in Sunday’s Pit Stop race, while technical issues ruled out a second podium finish for Murphy.
In Group GTO, Abba Racing have taken the top spot in the points standings and also moved themselves up to third in the Overall standings. Richard Neary and Ian Loggie took both wins during Saturday’s running and an extra win on Sunday helped boost their points total. Fans were treated to the stunning Brabham BT62 at Brands Hatch as the car was ready to return to racing. Paul Bailey and David Brabham snatched Sunday’s Pit Stop race win from Abba and the pair sit just 15 points behind their rivals.
Group GT3 sees G-Cat Racing’s Shamus Jennings and Greg Caton return to the field, while Jolt Racing’s Rupert Williams and John Ingram represent Group GTA.
Each day during an event will kick off with a 15-minute free practice session followed by two 15-minute qualifying sessions with up to three groups running in each session. Qualifying times set the grid for the day’s first race. The fastest laps during the day’s first race then determine who sits where on the grid for the day’s second race. In a change from 2023, Saturday runs with the Sprint Race followed by the Pit-Stop Race, while Sunday runs in the reverse with the Sprint closing out the day.
Track action kicks off on Saturday morning with free practice at 9.45am. Plus, all four races will be broadcast live on Facebook and YouTube.
