Current and former champions return as spectacular GT Cup grid takes shape for 2025

A number of past and present champions have committed to the new-format GT Cup Championship for the 2025 campaign, with numbers rapidly growing momentum ahead of an exciting season opener at Donington Park.

Reigning champions Topcats Racing head the list with no fewer than three entries for the season. All are in a stacked GTC group, starting with standout 2024 performer Fraser Fenwick who shares with series returnee, Iain Campbell, in one of three Lamborghini Super Trofeo combinations.

Their line-ups are completed by Bal Sidhu/George Jaxon, plus the duo of former competitor Mark Havers and GB3 podium finisher, Jarrod Waberski. The Lamborghini is a popular choice for the season opener, with DWG Motorsport (Jack Gadd) among those thinking alike, but also Triple M Motorsport and the popular GT Cup re-emergance of Grahame Tilley and Will Tregurtha.

Group GT3 entries in particular are set to enjoy healthy growth from the previous year meanwhile. That fact is bolstered by the return of several squads that followers of the series will be already clued up on from years gone by. It also includes newcomers Team PB Racing with JMH, who will field an Audi R8 GT3 LMS EVO 2 for rookie Peter Erceg.

Team PB Racing are backed by former GT Cup championship-winning outfit JMH Automotive, who also continue to supply engineering support to Orange Racing - the 2022 overall champions - who will bring their GT3 McLaren 720s to the party with drivers Simon Orange and Marcus Clutton. JMH Auto also runs its own GTC Lamborghini for Frank Morris and ex-BTCC racer James Pickford.

Paddock Motorsport will again feature on the grid, albeit this time competing for honours in the top group. British GT regular Mark Smith will pilot the team's #10 McLaren 720s in a push for GT3 wins, gaining vital race day experience against strong Am opposition.

Another household name to add to the GT3 group at Donington is the McLaren 720s of Greystone GT, with regular drivers Andrey Borodin and former Renault Clio Cup UK frontrunner, Ed Pead, teaming up in their striking blue and yellow machine. A fourth confirmed 720s will be piloted by Darren Kell and Track Focused, who will be joined for the two 100-minute enduros by son James - a class winner in the most recent centenary edition of the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa.

The top group also contains the venomous Porsche 911 GT3 of G-Cat Racing, returning to defend the group crown after an incredibly successful 2024 season for drivers Shamus Jennings and Greg Caton.

Group GTO will rekindle battles between well-known drivers and equipment in equal measure. A favourite in GT Cup has always been the flame-spitting Porsche 935 silhouette of Richard Chamberlain, which returns once more having previously beaten the very best of modern GT machines on track.

Former champion Paul Bailey aims to snatch back his overall and GTO group crowns meanwhile, again utilising the enviable experience of Formula 1 driver and Le Mans 24 Hours victor, David Brabham. The intense rumble of a Mosler will return to fans' ears thanks to the National Motorsport Academy, a multiple race-winning combination of the past.

Porsche fans, rejoice; James and Bill Caley (Uber GT Performance) return after shining at Silverstone last year, while Doc Bush (Team Parker Racing) also pens his signature to maintain a spot as a GTC group entry. Tom Walpole brings KTM to the occasion with second driver Marc Kemp, while there is a debut for Oselli Motorsport (Aston Martin) and a return for Jolt Racing in their newest McLaren Artura.

Innovation Racing's Simon Griffiths will add two Ginetta G55s to the grid for his own squad, with Brent Millage confirmed for his return in the #54 car. The #30 entry of team boss Griffiths takes on a tight-looking GTH field which features the Aston Martin of serial winners Feathers Motorsport, plus the Ginettas of 24/7 Motorsport and SVG Motorsport.

The latter will also run a BMW in the GTA group. The German manufacturer is also visible at Donington Park thanks to friend of the championship, Chris Murphy, who will grace the grid for the season opener.

Announcements will continue over the winter in build-up to the opening rounds at Donington Park at the end of March (29/30), so be sure to keep up to date on all things GT Cup via our social media channels.
