GT Cup Championship fever to eclipse World Cup fever as Donington Park return awaits

World Cup fever may be gripping the nation, but GT Cup Championship fever returns just as strongly as we return to Donington Park for four more thrilling races this weekend (27/28 June) across the third event of a gripping 2026 season.

It is also the second visit of the campaign to the famous Leicestershire venue, where Team BRIT and PB Racing by JMH Automotive were victorious back in April’s GT Cup 100 openers.

Both will again be tussling for outright and group GT3 glory, this time joined by last year’s GT3 champion, Mark Smith, who returns with Paddock Motorsport in his McLaren 720S GT3. PB Racing’s Peter Erceg bagged two victories from pole position in an almighty Saturday performance at Snetterton by the Audi R8 LMS GT3 driver, before Team BRIT’s Jamie Falvey and Paul Fullick hit back on day two with their BMW M4 GT3 to head the group standings.

Further competition this season comes from the current GTO group leaders, SB Race Engineering, as Paul Bailey and David Brabham claw their way closer to the outright top spot with their new Mercedes-AMG GT3. The series welcomes back Tom Walpole who enters his newest weapon in GTO, the Truemix Racing KTM X-BOW GT2. Marc Kemp will share the #117 machine.

The overall GT Cup Championship is currently headed by the GTA points leaders. SVG Motorsport’s Neil Wallace and Ian Astley now have three group wins in their BMW - one more than the first of Innovation Racing’s three Ginettas, driven by Bryn Calder and Kyle Wells who won twice last time out.

Simon Griffiths’ squad also have entries in GTC and GTH, the former represented by Bertie Bream and Luke Bennett who were frontrunners here back in April in their unique Ginetta G56. Ahead of them in group GTC sit three Lamborghinis, headed by Triple M Motorsport’s Charlie Digby who added an overall win at Snetterton with Felix Livesey’s assistance to make it four group wins for car #4 in ‘26.

Frank Morris - with Jamie Stanley in for this weekend - has impressed for FHM Racing by JMH, as has Jack Gadd and Jack Brown for Topcats Racing, both with a win apiece in GTC for their similar Huracan STs. Parker Motorsport bring two Porsches for Michael McInerney/Phil Keen and Doc Bush respectively to further spice up the fight.

Group GTH is certainly one to watch after six exciting races. Three wins in Norfolk for Triple M Motorsport’s Harry Yuill gave the #65 Ginetta crew the advantage, but they face stiff competition from the similar cars of Innovation Racing (Sam Branston/James Wareing), SVG Motorsport (Marc Elman/Alex Toth-Jones) and 24-7 Motorsport (Ben Taylor/Charlie Benson), as well the McLaren Artura of Jolt Racing’s Rupert Williams and John Ingram who have all visited the podium.

An Aston Martin Vantage joins the fight as Matt Eddolls and Sam Maher-Loughan make their series comeback with Oselli Motorsport, plus there will be a BMW G82 M4 in the hands of GT Cup newcomers Constructive X UBIQ, piloted by Andrew Dawber and Nathan Wright.

Weekend action commences with the first Sprint and Pit Stop races on Saturday at 14:15 and 17:00 respectively, followed by the same format but reversed from 13:20 and 16:45 on Sunday. All races will be broadcast live and for free on the GT Cup YouTube channel.

Remember to get your tickets for the third GT Cup Championship event of the season at Donington Park this weekend, which can be purchased on the gates, or online here.
