GT Cup debut for Welch Motorsport and Telling with Championship returnee Parsons
Welch Motorsport will make its GT Cup debut in 2018 with Carrera Cup racer Matt Telling joining Pete Parsons, who makes his return to the Championship. The pair will take to track in a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup generation one machine, which will compete in Group GTB.
Parsons last raced in GT Cup in 2014 in a Ferrari 430 Scuderia. For 2018 he will be in the familiar confines of the Porsche, after racing in Carrera Cup for the past three seasons.
Welch Motorsport is run by father and son John and Dan Welch. Dan raced for the team for six years in the British Touring Car Championship, from 2012-16, and wants to expand the family team back to other series.
“It is nice to do different championships and different events, with different cars and different people,” said Dan. “As a team we’re expanding into different series and building the team back up to what we used to be.
“GT Cup is a good place to go racing – there’s some quick cars and nice circuits and we can have good weekends racing. The car is ready to go, and we’re looking forward to it and to be honest the drivers are looking forward to going to Spa!
“Pete has raced in GT Cup previously and Matt, who raced in PCCGB last year, has fractured his coccyx and was unable to start the PCCGB this year, so it makes sense to do something at a good, professional level, but maybe slightly less stressful.”
