Jon and James join Topcats Racing for 2018 GT Cup campaign
Regular GT Cup outfit Topcats Racing has finalised its line-up for the 2018 season as Jon Harrison and James Reveler have joined the team. Harrison will team up with Warren Gilbert in the Marcos Mantis, while Reveler joins Gary Smith in the Ginetta.
Reveler made his GT Cup debut last year in selected rounds, securing some good results including a second place in Group GTA at Donington Park and a fifth overall for the pair that same weekend. While this means Mick Mercer, Smith’s usual co-driver won’t be racing full-time in the Ginetta G55 GT4, Gilbert aims to drag his old friend into the Marcos for selected appearances through the season.
“We are delighted to welcome the Smith/Mercer family back to the team,” said Gilbert. “Mick’s decision to relinquish his seat to a young driver is typical of his wish to see young drivers excel and reach their potential. Smith and Reveler as a driver pairing makes us very excited to see what can be achieved in the championship this year.
“We won’t be letting Mick get too comfortable in his manager’s seat though. We’ll be reintroducing him to his old mistress, our Marcos Mantis in GTB, for a few races we hope!”
Joining Gilbert will be experienced driver Harrison – who has been with Topcats for over a decade – and the duo’s combined endurance racing experience means the pair are hopeful of a Group GTB title run, after the team helped Neil Huggins take the crown last year.
