New GT Cup Group To Accommodate Classic GT3 Cars For 2027 Season

The GT Cup Championship are thrilled to announce a new Group ahead of the series' 20th anniversary season in 2027, which will cater primarily for GT3 cars from 2007-2018.

Group GTL will provide an opportunity for former GT Cup competitors and newcomers alike to bring their classic machinery out to celebrate the championship’s 20th season.

Following interest from a variety of potential competitors, the group is already shaping up to be an exciting addition to the GT Cup grid and will expand the number of categories to a possible seven from next year. Eligible cars will compete for their own Group title, as well as Overall and Teams honours, plus the Sprint and Sporting Challenges.

Variety has always been a cornerstone of the championship and this group offers a fantastic opportunity to celebrate that point as well as a truly fantastic era of GT racing.

Championship Director, Hannah James, said: “Ahead of a landmark season for us, and after the amount of interest we have already received from competitiors with older GT machinery, we feel this is a perfect time to introduce a new Group to accomodate these cars. In its 20 years, the GT Cup Championship has seen so many wonderful cars take to the race tracks, so this gives us the opportunity to celebrate these cars while enabling a competitive and fair environment.”

This announcement comes hot off the reveal of the 2027 calendar, which will feature six events around the UK’s top circuits and again include a pair of GT Cup 100 format weekends. To further commemorate the milestone season, the championship kicks off at Norfolk’s Snetterton circuit which hosted the inaugural GT Cup weekend.
