Scott Sport and JMH share Silverstone spoils

Marcus Clutton and John Seale mastered the torrential conditions to take a dominant win in Saturday's Endurance Race at Silverstone, while John Dhillon continued his strong pace from Snetterton to secure Sprint success.

After a podium in Saturday morning's Sprint encounter, a shorter minimum pitstop time allowed the JMH Automotive pair to jump their rivals and take a comprehensive victory in the rain.

Earlier, Dhillon took his fifth class victory of 2020 but was denied a sixth as he - and team-mate Aaron Scott - were pipped by Lucky Khera and Ross Wylie after a late race safety car.

JMH also tasted success in GTH, sharing class success with Feathers Motorsport. Sharing was also the name of the game in GTB as Team HARD and Topcats Racing both tasted victory.

Team HARD also won in GTA but were denied a double by Century Motorsport.

Qualifying

The morning's 15-minute qualifying session was an all-GT3 affair between Grahame Tilley in the Tec Serv Nissan GT-R GT3 and the JMH Automotive Lamborghini Huracan GT3 of John Seale.

Seale's early lap put him on top but Tilley left it until later in the session to put in a superb effort in his Nissan - affectionately known as Godzilla - to log a 2m02.129s, almost two seconds clear of Seale.

Behind the lead duo was the GTC polesitting Simon Green Motorsport Ferrari 488 Challenge of Lucky Khera, while Warren Gilbert proved the Marcos Mantis is still a car to beat as he took GTB pole with a time good enough for fifth overall.

Top spot in GTH went to the Craig Wilkins in the Scott Sport Ginetta G55, with the similar Ginetta of Joshua Jackson storming to GTA pole.

Sprint Race

John Dhillon added an overall victory to Scott Sport's sweep of GTC at Snetterton after a tightly-contested opening encounter. The Ferrari 488 Challenge driver finished second on the road, but a track limits penalty for Khera promoted Dhillon to victory.

John Seale rounded out the podium - and took GT3 victory - in his Huracan, while Jenson Lunn took advantage of cars ahead squabbling at the start to take GTB success in his Marcos.

Getting the better of his Team HARD team-mate allowed Joshua Jackson to seal GTA victory in his Ginetta G55. It was Ginetta success also in GTH as James Guess won a drag race to the line to pip Gemini Motorsport's Andy Robey by 0.072s.

Endurance Race

A shorter pitstop allowed JMH Automotive to get the jump on its rivals and secure a hard-fought victory in a rain-soaked Pit Stop Race.

Starting on pole, Seale had an early battle with the Ferraris of John Dhillon and Lucky Khera but a shorter minimum pitstop time - because of a lack of success seconds - allowed him to hand the Lamborghini over to Clutton with 20 and 15 seconds respectively in hand over the Ferraris.

Despite a late safety car, Clutton mastered the restart - and had traffic on his side - to cross the line with a more than 12s advantage.

The GTC battle went down to the wire as a better restart from Ross Wylie gave him and Khera their first class victory of the day. Aaron Scott took third overall and second-in-class for his self-run Scott Sport team alongside Dhillon.

JMH Automotive also took victory in GTH with Steve Ruston and John Whitehouse. The pair used the better drivability of their McLaren 570S to finish well-clear of their class rivals.

Alex Stevenson and James Kellett took GTA glory on their debut in the Century Motorsport-run Ginetta G55 after Kellett pulled off a remarkable double-overtake going into Copse just after the safety car restart.

GTB went to Ben Clayden and Sam Randon in the Team HARD Porsche 911 GT3 Cup with experiencing racing the car in the wet for the first time, with Clayden taking part in just his third race weekend.

Marcus Clutton

“There wasn't a lot for me to do to be honest! The two GTC Ferraris gave John a run for his money in the first stint, but then our lack of pitstop penalties allowed us to jump them in the pits. From there it was just getting a feel for the conditions and managing a bit of traffic. The safety car played into my hands a little bit because Ross [Wylie] had three backmarkers between us and it was just a case of pulling away as soon as I crossed the line."

James Kellett

“I've never driven the Ginetta G55 in these conditions - neither has Alex - and to be able to jump out like that and take a class win is pretty decent. The last lap was pretty tricky, at the safety car restart I overtook two people into turn one and I think that was the make or break move really. I overtook those two and then I was just hunting down the cars ahead."

Jenson Lunn

“We've been thinking about this weather, the radar showed that rain was going to come ten minutes into the Sprint Race so we actually had pretty much a wet set-up on the car, although we were on slicks just so we could cover all the bases! We managed to get a jump at the start because the #78 Porsche was racing with the Ginettas. Once he got clear, we had an eight-second lead which he closed down to four. But I backed off a bit, got the tyre temperatures down and then got the gap back up again."

Sam Randon

“The weather in the endurance race was a bit different to the weather we've had over the past few weeks, but I love the rain so I welcome it with open arms! I'm fortunate that I've done a fair few laps in the Ginetta in the wet so I'm used to the speed, it's just getting used to the Porsche. The main thing is, I'm super proudof Ben. It's his third race weekend and the pace he's putting out is fantastic."
