Second BMW M3 for Group GTA as Robey relishes GT Cup return
Gemini Cars becomes the second team to enter a BMW M3 GTR into the GT Cup with its Group GTA entry for returnee Andy Robey. Andy competed in two GT Cup events during 2015 before undertaking his first full campaign last time out.
Despite struggles with the car at times, Robey dug deep to secure three fourth place finishes at Donington Park and Oulton Park and will be hoping to get a spot on the podium during 2018.
“We keep trying to improve our reliability and hopefully we’ll get there slowly but surely,” said Robey. “Last year we had drivetrain issues. Gearbox and driveshaft failures cost us a few DNFs during the season, so we’ve replaced all of them, uprated the gearbox and renewed it.
“We’re doing a few alterations to the suspension to find a bit of time too. Our aim is always to catch and beat cars in front, whatever Group they run in. We’ll try to beat whoever is around us, that’s the name of the game! The Group structure plays a part for points but we’re just here to race.”
One circuit Andy is keen to make a return to is Spa Francorchamps in Belgium, once again the European highlight on the GT Cup calendar. “It was my first time there last year, but I was a bit disappointed because we had a few issues. Hopefully this time out we can have a better weekend of it.”
Tickets are now on sale for the opening round of the GT Cup Championship which will race alongside the LMP3 Cup for six of the eight rounds in 2018.
