Race Report for Round Twenty-Five- Sprint Race

Igoe snaps up victory in spectacular Saturday sprint

Under grey skies at Snetterton, WPI’s Motorsports’ Michael Igoe claimed victory in Saturday’s sprint race. Starting from pole, Igoe remained largely unchallenged despite Daniel de Zille’s best efforts in the #19 FF Corse Ferrari. In the early stages, Igoe and de Zille were trading purple times, with de Zille applying real pressure to the Lamborghini, but it wasn’t to last and Igoe scampered off to the chequered flag.

Finishing third after a great battle with Grahame Tilley was James Webb. Webb qualified fifth, but a fantastic start saw him jump Shamus Jennings to nab fourth place. After following Tilley’s Nissan for a fair few laps, Webb finally made his way past to claim the final podium spot. Webb maintains the overall championship lead and the GTC group points lead, despite being beaten to the group win by Dan de Zille.

A pole position for Warren Gilbert in GTB gave Top Cats Racing a great start to the race, but the Marcos Mantis couldn’t quite hang on against a charging Jamie Morrow. The Saxon Motorsport BMW stole the lead from Gilbert in the latter stages of the race giving the team the group win. Jonathan Wright in the #911 24/7 Motorsport Porsche rounds off the group finishers.

New to the grid this season Fox Motorsports followed on from their pole position with a group GTH win. The Mercedes finished ninth overall, managing to keep a GTA Ginetta between itself and its closest rival - the #44 McLaren of Steve Ruston. Ruston fought hard for his second place, overcoming some fierce competition from returning driver David Holloway. Finishing third in group was Whitebridge Motorsport’s Chris Murphy.

In group GTA, newcomers PT Sports Car took the win finishing 11th overall. David Bearman capitalised on the team’s pole position to keep plenty of space between himself and Fraser Smart in second place.
